My nickname is LandShark! because of how people seem to bastardize my name. I like it because of the fact that it came from my favorite SNL sketch and I tend to be a bit of a wise ass. I am the 2007 Pride In The Arts Awards recipient (Favorite Gay Musician), a 5 time OutMusic Awards Nominee, and internationally acclaimed recording artist for my work which provides my listeners with satire and laughter through song. I am often compared to Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants for my acerbic and irreverent wit but a more accurate comparison of my music style would be with The Jam and XTC. I take on the subjects of domestic violence, morbid obesity, homophobia, and mental illness and in an attempt to bring them into the comedic light. My music has been described as "inflammatory but always sincere" because I use crass humor to send the message that even life’s most serious moments should be taken lightly on occasion.
I dare to break taboos with my politically incorrect tunes “Slap Her Down Again” and “Fat Chicks Snore” but also dig down deep with “The Serotonin Song” to tell of my struggles with bipolar disorder. I use my tales of growing up gay in a family of twelve children further promote the message that a sense of humor is vital to getting through some of life’s most difficult moments.
I've performed with the Butthole Surfers, C&C Music Factory, Flock of Seagulls, and Petula Clark to name a few but be sure to catch me locally if I'm in your town. Don't be afraid to say hey. The LandShark! does not bite.
